This book is so useful. The photographs are beautiful, and the text is wonderfully written. With a lot of decorating books, I get the sense that the books are put together very quickly in order to get them out to sale. But with this book, I get the sense that both the author and the photographer put a lot of time and effort into creating the book. It is very thoughtful, and useful, as we can apply many of the ideas to our own decorating styles. I am planning to do some of the projects that they describe. So thank you Katrin Cargill and Christopher Drake, you've done a wonderful job!

Great photos of interiors and specific chapters devoted to aspects such as paint and textiles make this a highly useful book. Also included are instructions for simple projects. A fun book.

Wonderful cross between classic and now - uncluttered and understated. Makes me want to curl up and read in one of the living rooms or bedrooms featured. Not just a "pretty" book, but a little historic and cultural as well. Its my new coffee table book; gorgeous inside and out!!!!

Katrin Cargill never fails to come up with the goods. Her books are interesting and informative as well as containing good information and excellent photographs. This book covers exactly what the title said, however, I think I was looking for more "Gustavian" decorating and perhaps more detail on how to achieve it. I was not at all disappointed with this book and have enjoyed many hours perusing it.

Such a wonderful book. Every page is a delight. I get such great ideas from it, like the painted furniture and the bleached look.

Richtig interessant. Da sind einige spannende und viele absurde Theorien in diesem Buch. Es macht echt Spaß es zu lesen. Die Theorien werden gut erklärt, vor allem wieso viele daran glauben und das ist echt interessant und man zerbricht sich zumindest bei der ein oder anderen auch mal den Kopf. Empfehlenswert

Wer sich selbst schon einmal mit jemand der fest an gewisse Theorien glaubt unterhalten hat, weiß wie unglaublich herausfordernd so ein Gespräch ist. Wenn die Gegenseite von einer Tatsache überzeugt ist die aber für den Gesprächspartner eindeutig falsch ist wird es schwierig eine Unterhaltung zu führen.Das Buch zeigt diverse Theorien auf, oft deren Entstehung (zB Marsgesicht) und auch wie diese widerlegt wurden. Wenn man aber nicht an die Widerlegung glaubt oder glauben will wie geht es dann weiter? dann verliert der Mensch den Halt und das wird dann schnell eine Spirale. Ich finde das Buch nimmt das Thema gut auf und klärt auf. Für Betroffene und für Leute die sich noch im Ansatz befinden eine gute Empfehlung.
